A big 48 hours

About midday on friday i was taken to my new home by Arthur the medical centre administrator. The drive was amazing, what i saw on my drive out to the village very quickly made me realise my experience so far of malawi was little more than a luxurious holiday that could have been anywhere in the world, but the real lilongwe was just over the bridge, leading into a whole other world. On arriving to the village i was given a twenty minute walk around with some quick introductions, then delivered to my house where Arthur promptly said "have a great weekend" and left.

Honestly, i shut the door and didn't leave the house for about 24 hours. i was like a stunned rabbit i think. A very strange evening, where i discovered that my house was pretty much empty. a bed, a mattres, bookshelf, table & chairs, a fridge & stove (yay) but that was it! so the rice i had taken with me, really couldn't be cooked. But the vegemite sandwhich worked a treat!!

But this last 24 hours has been much better, One of the other volunteers arrived at my house and took me out to adventure and purchase some much needed "things" and "food"

I have so very much more that i want to share, but my time has gone...!

Thankyou so so so much for your emails, I'm sorry i havn't had the chance to reply individually, but please do keep sending them, they mean alot to me!

look forward to sharing more of my experience so far!

:-)

Hi TJ,
Great start to the blog. Our place at Ranwadi was a bit similar when we arrived... no cooking utensils etc. We scrounged a few bits and pieces and put in an order to Port Vila for some extra bits and pieces. They arrived in just under a week with another teacher who then gave us a box that she'd had stored in her house full of the same sort of stuff she'd delivered.
:-)
Remember you're in our thoughts and prayers.
Love from the Westy's
