ngumbi
Oops! i totally posted photos without words!!! These are photos that share only just a little of the Ngumbi adventures that occur this time of year! They are little flying bugy things that are eaten as a delicious (!!) snack.... They have a big flight just after the first rains which is hysterical!! the kids run to my door yelling ngumbi ngumbi and we all run outside to catch as many of the thousands of flying bugs as possible! They can be eaten as an immediate snack just out of the sky, or can also be fried up with some butter and served as a relish on rice or nsima!!!
The kids lie flat on the ground to find the best place they are leaving the ground, as this will yield the best catch.... then they jump up and run around screaming and laughing catching as many as possible... it really is a sight to be seen!!!
Hear are the girls relaxing on the balcony one warm evening to recover from our running around. As you can see they are all fabulous at giving a ngumbi impersonation!!!
Digger has now arrived in Malawi and we have a giant list of "things to do" one of which is to eat the ngumbie.... it was a few days ago now and we are still alive, so i think they're safe! they didn't really taste alltogether bad, it was just the crunching of a live wriggling bug that was a little odd!! lots more to update abut diggers trip so far, but as usual i am way behind in updates...
